This eBook contains two classics of Stoic literature by Seneca, perhaps its greatest advocate in the first century of the Common Era.
Lucius Annaeus Seneca (often known dimply as Seneca, or Seneca the Younger) (c. 4 BC - AD 65) was a Roman Stoic philosopher, statesman, dramatist, and in one work humorist, of the Silver Age of Latin literature. He was tutor and later advisor to emperor Nero, who later executed him for complicity in a conspiracy to assassinate him. He was likely innocent of the crime.
He was born in Cordoba, Spain, the second son of Helvia and Marcus (LUCIUS) Annaeus Seneca, a wealthy rhetorician known as Seneca the Elder. Seneca’s older brother, Gallio, was proconsul at Achaia (where he encountered the apostle Paul about AD 53). Seneca was uncle to the poet Lucan, by his younger brother, Annaeus Mela.
